Here's a Thought

In my quest to have my Mother's Social Security Benefits reinstated, I spent a lot of time on the phone.  Getting nowhere.

I live in Canada and this was the US Social Security Department.  The 800 numbers don't work from here.  And the website?  Not on a secure server.  Seriously.  It says in red lettering not to provide any personal information.

How the hell are you supposed to get anything done if you can't provide names, numbers or what the problem is?

So I called.  And was immediately put on hold.  And every minute and a half, this extremely peppy young man would tell me who I had phoned and then say, "Here's a thought!  Next time, why not go to our website at www.wedontcare.com?"

At first, I let it pass.  Then I started to explain.  Then I started to swear.  Then I offered a few thoughts of my own.

Finally, after an hour and a half on hold, someone tried to answer my call.

And cut me off.

After lunch, I tried again.  Same peppy young man.  Same suggestion.

Much more creative responses from my end.

They warned at the beginning that conversations might be monitored and oh, dear God, I was hoping that the "on hold" portion was monitored, too!

Two and a half hours of this and then it was 4:30.

The line went dead.

Barb, I don't bite very often, but I think I would have bitten someone over that!

Just my two cents. ;)

If only I had known you then - I'd've let you!
