Lazy Sunday Links - Now Do This

When I was working for myself, staying organized was easy.

But since Alan and I have started working for others and I still want to maintain an online presence (hello!), it's gotten more complicated.  Anything that can help me stay organized AND be fun to work with is a winner in my books.

I found just such a winning tool this week.  It's called Now Do This and it's a really simple, well-designed online To Do list.

At the start of your work day, you enter what you need to get done that day and hit save.  Your list shows up one item at a time.

When you finish a task, you hit done and up comes the next item and so on till the big green all done! shows up and you feel special.

You can organize your list by how you think your day will go or (and this is how I do it) in order of importance.

Put the most important thing first and then a few others after that.  So if your day goes all to hell regularly, at least you stand a chance of getting the big stuff done.

Wow!  That's a long post for one little site!  Please, head on over and check out Now Do This.  And when you're in the edit window, click on 'about' and you'll be able to go to their blog.  It's got a couple of helpful hints.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Somehow, in the midst of work-related research, I stumbled across the site A Daring Adventure (by life coach Tim Brownson) and, in particular, this post on How to Be Miserable.  I quickly forwarded the link to myself at home and got back to the task at hand.

There's also How to be Even More Miserable.  And for those of us who are in a relationship, do check out How to be Miserable in Marriage or Any Relationship for That Matter.

Great advice.  And funny, too.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday.

Nothin' but 'Net

I missed doing my Lazy Links on Sunday, what with the thunder and lightning and blizzards and being stranded at my sister's with nothing but pizza, red wine and her comfy, comfy couch (Oh how I have suffered!).

So I'll do it today.

While I was getting all freaked out about the snow, over at Ali Blah Blah, they were being evacuated because of wildfires.  And she still managed to post!  The NaBloPoMo marathon continues.

CrazyWonderful posts a picture and a little story a day.  It's like a lovely, bite-sized blogging snack.

Umrellablog is for "all those who still don't know what they want to be when they grow up..."  You mean it's written just for ME?

And finally, we have Bad Penguin.  Great name, cool blog, great design.

And that's post number eighteen for Hell Month NaBloPoMo.  Anyone else feeling the strain?

Lazy Sunday Links

For those of you who are new here, on Sundays I like to post links to other cool sites I've found through the week.  And since I'm participating in NaBloPoMo, I thought I'd feature other brave souls.

Actually, this NaBloPoMo thing is so much fun!  With the ginourmous blog roll Eden's put together, it's like we're all in some huge conference room together, wearing name tags and milling around, drinking warm white wine and peering near-sightedly at each others' chests.

"Oh!  You're from Cleeeeeeveland?  Wow!  I've never even been to Cleveland!  What a coincidence!"

Like I said.  Too much fun.

Here's who I've discovered this week, participants all.

First up is Cynical Dad.  Very cool, very funny, although he does talk about football rather a lot.  I try not to hold that against him.  Be sure to check out his "best of" selections.

The Belgian Waffle is also participating!  Yay!  I've been following her blog for awhile, so it's nice to see a familiar face at this thing.

Haddy.bo.baddy hails from New Zealand.  Haddy is a dog and there's another dog and some kids and all sorts of funny stuff.  This one makes it in for introducing the phrase "up at the crack of arse thirty" to my life.  I can't wait to use it.  Well, actually, I can.  It means really way too early.

Corina has the lovely blog Down to Earth Mama, on which she features her beautiful photography and bits and pieces about her life.

She also put me on her NaBloPoMo blogroll and I appreciate it.

And just yesterday I found Shoes On Wrong.  She lives in Detroit (I lived in Detroit!), is very funny and lives with the kitty who is my favourite CuteOverload post EVAR!

And then there's Expateek.  She's moved around a lot, which is very inspiring to me.  And possibly a little dangerous.

I feel like I've forgotten someone.  If it's you, please leave me a comment and I'll add you in next week.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links - Just in Case There's Not Enough to Read on the Internet...

Two sites to share with you this week.

First up is Library Thing.

It's a social networking site for bookhounds.  You list the books in your library, and find other people with the same weird taste as you  (anybody else with Ulysses and Bridget Jones's Diary in theirs?).

You can post and read reviews and do all the usual social networky things.

But what's really cool is that they send out a monthly newsletter, so once a month I can smack myself on the forehead and say, oh yeah....  I signed up for that.

This month, they announced free books available for review!

Free books, people.  It doesn't get any better than that!

Of course, you have to sign in, and the competition is pretty stiff - over a thousand people vying for thirty books.  But, seriously, FREE BOOKS!

Speaking of which, Daily Lit is a very cool site.  They will send you a daily excerpt of a classic novel every morning (they also have many other kinds of books - some you pay for, but lots of them are freeeeee!).  So, bit by bit, you can work your way through War and Peace and other things you've been meaning to get to, but with one thing and another....

I just think it's great to find something in my inbox that promises to enhance my brain....

Lazy Sunday Links - While I Was Away

I'm still trying to get caught up with everything I missed while internetless last month.  But I missed A LOT!

Julie had her baby.

Anna moved.  Petite moved, too (and put photos of the new place on Flickr!).

Dumdad thought about giving up blogging, but didn't.  Peach thought about it too, and did (we'll miss you!).

And Anna lived (yay!).

Now if the rest of you could, please, just sit still for twenty minutes or so....

Lazy Sunday Links

I've been reading this post from Be Gay About It over the last few days.  If I ever do get that tattoo I keep promising myself, it's going to be this quote:

Changed plans are not disappointments. They're opportunities.

Amen.

If anyone else needs a smile, you might consider joining The Cloud Appreciation Society.

My friend Juliet is one of their newest members, for this find.

They even have A Manifesto that reads in part:

We pledge to fight ‘blue-sky thinking’ wherever we find it.

I love that!

And, since nothing in the world is more guaranteed to bring a smile than puppies, I leave you with this....

Hope you're having a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Eden Kennedy of the blog Fussy is living my life...  I mean, how great is is that she gets sent samples of caulk to review?  I want that job!!!  Be sure to click on through to read the actual review.  It's hysterical.

I was charmed by this post on Smaller Than Life.  Just such a little tiny detail, just a dot, really.  But so well-written.

And The View From The Last House in America directed me to this site.  Fun for all ages.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

And don't forget to send me your links!

Lazy Sunday Links

How I felt most of the week while my computer (aka "Fluffy") refused to work for me.  Fortunately, my husband called Dell for me and after half an hour or so with the Tech Guy, everything seems to be fine.  Whew!

I found a few new sites this week that I'm really enjoying.  Hmmm.... where to start...

A few weeks ago Bete du Jour sent out a survey.  I've no idea where he found my email.  Suspecting I was being had, I started following his blog.  He writes really well.  I left a comment about the survey.  Then he had to move. And he and his girlfriend broke up.  And his cat died.  I'm really hoping things get much, much better for him.  Because I'm hooked on this blog and can't take much more sorrow.

I also found Kristabella: Full of Snark Since 1977.  Billed as "tales of a Chicago singleton who keeps the wineries in business", she does have some snark, but in a nice way.

The lovely folks who bring us I Can Has Cheezburger and I Has a Hotdog (where I found today's picture)  also have FAIL blog.  When you're having a bad day, it's always nice to get a laugh from someone whose day is worse.

And one I think I can probably learn a lot from as I continue my job search: Not Hired.  I just pray my resume never shows up on it!

Found via Reclaiming Miss Havisham, a wonderful blog that started out as a decor blog and is now evolving in new directions.  Wise girl, she just changed the course of her one blog.  Unlike me.  I keep adding new ones as new ideas occur.  As they did this week, leading to...

Stratford Daily Photo.  A picture a day of my hometown.  Part of the City Daily Photo network, in which you can lose yourself for days.

I'll leave you with that, hoping you're all enjoying a lovely lazy Sunday.

And to all you Dads - Happy Father's Day!

Lazy Sunday Links

I found this video.  And it so, so resonated with how I've been feeling this week.

Quick.  Can anyone tell me the French for "I have lost all perspective"?

Lazy Sunday Links

I found this story through this post on Rachel Swan's lovely blog.

I love the sentiment and am reminded of the times in my life that people have reached out to me and, with a simple touch, made the world of difference.

It also made me think of this video.

Lazy Sunday Links

I loved this story over on Swearing Mother this week.

And did you know Moby has a blog?  Well, he does.  It's not half bad, and if you have the patience to register, you can leave comments.  To MOBY!

I wonder who else has a blog that I don't know about...

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

And Happy Mother's Day, where appropriate!

Lazy Sunday Links

I was getting over a cold this week, which meant that I got to spend a lot of time in bed, surfing aimlessly.  We bloggers like to call this "doing research".

And I found this!  Not only can you annoy your housemates, you also get to pretend to be a conductor of sorts!  How cool is that?

Hope you're all enjoying a lovely lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday Links

Whenever I need a good laugh, I click into I Can Has Cheezburger.  I don't know why, but the combination of animal photos and bad spelling always brightens my day.

So imagine my amazement when I found out that these same folks have decided to translate the Bible into the language known as LOLspeak. Srsly.  The whole Bible.

If you're wondering why I find this so funny.  My previous post might have something to do with.  Most notably, the Nyquil.

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!

An Open Letter to British Bloggers

Dear British Bloggers,

I love your sense of humour.  That wonderful way you have of looking at life for the absurdity that it is.  I have a list of favourite British blogs a mile long that I'd love to share with the world.

But people?  It's the titles!  Some of my favourite blogs have names like My Boyfriend is a Twat.  Swearing Mother isn't too bad a name.  As billed, you do swear.  A lot.  But Peach Arse?   Eurojism?!?  I can't recommend these!  I mean, you're fabulous.  Funny and touching and all things good.  But the names...OY! Those names!

It Is Just You, Everything's Not Shit is written by a very nice young man.  And as near as I can determine, the only swear word used in the entire blog is right there in the title.  Figures.  I could recommend this site to my Nana, had she not been dead for...

Good God!  Nana's been dead nearly forty years!

And I know you Brits.  Everything's filthy.  Even stuff that sounds perfectly innocent.  I read Petite Anglaise.  I've picked up a few key phrases.  Which makes me especially wary of recommending sites like Private Secret Diary, Little Red Boat or Whoopee (winner of the Basically Unemployable prize for Best Opening Post Ever).  Dazzlers one and all.

I just can't get past the sneaking suspicion that I'm saying something really rude and shocking when I mention those titles....

There is one, however that I'm pretty sure passes the clean test.  Musings From a Muddy Island.  No swears.  And lots and lots of book recommendations. Yay Juliet!

I'm sorry.  I'm not sure what I can do for the rest of you.

Prudishly Yours,

Barb

What I Did On My Week Off

This, mostly.

Thanks, Juliet.

Lazy Sunday Links

Blogging is becoming ever-more popular.  And it really is a wonderful resource for the self-employed.  Do it right, and you've got yourself an extra income stream.

Do it wrong, of course, and it won't do much of anything for you.

I blogged for far too long, with no idea what I was doing.  Resources, people!  Resources are crucial!

One of the best there is is Skelliewag, a pro blogger with lots of experience, a keen understanding of how it all works and an ability to lay it all out concisely and clearly.

I wish I'd discovered her a year and a half ago.  But at least you can learn from my mistakes...

And huge congratulations to Tim and Simon, whose Big Green Bookshop opened with great fanfare yesterday in London.

Yay guys!

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday.

Lazy Sunday Links

Here's a chance to do some good while writing about yourself.

A group of bloggers have gotten together to publish a book, to be called You're Not The Only One.  Proceeds from the sale will go to War Child - a British charity that helps children all over the world.

I think this is a great idea and I'll be submitting a piece.

If you have a blog, and you want to participate, head on over to peach to see the complete rules.

Don't have a blog?  You still have time to launch one (ahem, Kim...).  The deadline for submissions is February 29.

Lazy Sunday Links

I added two new links to my sidebar this week.

Diary of the Food Whore is written by a chef/caterer. Very funny stories of an entrepreneurial foodie.

And then there's The Bedlam of Beefy, written by Uncle Beefy, an artist/entrepreneur. He writes really well and his blog is filled with lots and lots of eye candy.

The new bloggers series is continuing over at All Things Bright and Beautiful. Lots of helpful hints this week!

Hope you're all having a lovely lazy Sunday!
