Many years ago, I was hired to work in a retail shop selling hobby supplies.
I was really quite pleased with myself. I was new in town and it had been a few years since I had been in the workforce.
One day, while I was at work, feeling very smug and competent, one of the sales reps stopped in for a visit with the manager. I overheard the following conversation.
Sales Rep: New staff?
Manager: (sadly) No one else applied.
